Harimandir (Janice)
Harimander was born in Austin, raised in Corpus Christi, and returned to her birthplace in 1979 when she started practicing yoga.
Her first yoga class was back in 1980, with a teacher in Austin who was famous for his militant style of yoga. If you couldn’t get into a posture he would simply put your body into the proper position. It was not a gentle or easy experience, but Harimandir, being very flexible, didn’t have a problem with it. They practiced with no mats and no blankets, just a bare floor.
Today, Harimandir is a Certified Hatha Instructor with the Yoga Institute of Austin. She graduated from Yoga Yoga’s Kundalini Level I Teacher Training program in 2004, and later completed the KYTT Level 2 Conscious Communication program in 2007. In 2008 she completed another portion of the KYTT Level 2 program, Authentic Relationships. She has studied Sat Nam Rasayan, and trained in Children’s Yoga through the Radiant Child Program with Shakta Kaur Khalsa in 2001. In addition to teaching Kundalini and Children’s yoga, Harimandir also works with a local outreach program, bringing yoga to schools that specialize in children with attention disorders. She also works in the Kundalini and Healing Addictions programs, and has taught at special events at churches and community events. She has also studied with renowned teacher Guru Dev Singh, and is a massage therapist.
Harimandir’s Kundalini classes are designed for every body. Students should experience levels of high energy and energetic shifts. Harimandir’s students love to dance and move the energy at the beginning of class, and get very comfortable before moving into a Kriya and meditation session. Expect the full Kundalini experience. Harimander also teaches Hatha classes, which incorporate Kundalini Kriyas and Pranayam breath work into a physical asana practice.
